Gabriel Landeskog staying with Colorado

Gabriel Landeskog signed an eight-year contract on Tuesday to stay with the Colorado Avalanche. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The 28-year-old forward could have become an unrestricted free agent Wednesday. He scored 52 points (20 goals, 32 assists) in 54 regular-season games last season and 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 10 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
"At the end of the day, I was sure about what I wanted, my heart is in Colorado," Landeskog said. "Denver's our home, that's where we put down our roots, that's where I always wanted to be. My heart was nowhere else, there's no place I'd rather be than Denver and to play for the Avs. I'm very happy that we got it done, relieved and happy and obviously very thankful for the continued support from the Kroenke family, Josh and Stan, and [general manager Joe Sakic] and [assistant GM Chris MacFarland] as well."
Selected by Colorado with the No. 2 pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, Landeskog has scored 512 points (218 goals, 294 assists) in 687 regular-season games and 45 points (16 goals, 29 assists) in 49 playoff games.
"The ultimate goal is to win the Stanley Cup, that's what I've said since Day One and the day I got drafted," Landeskog said. "I grew up with posters of the Avs' Cup winning teams in '96 and '01 in my room and that was my goal, my dream, to be in a picture where (I'm wearing) an Avs jersey and holding the Stanley Cup. That is something that's always going to be the goal."

Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog joins the show

Landeskog is sixth in goals, seventh in games played and eighth in points in Avalanche/Quebec Nordiques history. He has been Avalanche captain for nine seasons.
He won the 2011-12 Calder Trophy voted NHL rookie of the year after he scored 52 points (22 goals, 30 assists).
"We are thrilled to have our captain signed to a long-term deal," Sakic said. "Gabe is the heart and soul of this team and an integral part of our organization both on the ice and in the community. He's the consummate leader, a great teammate, and alongside Nathan] MacKinnon and [Mikko
, who signed a six-year contract with the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday.
