Season so far ANA Henrique

With the NHL pausing the 2019-20 regular season on March 12 due to the concerns surrounding the coronavirus, NHL.com is taking stock of each of the League's 31 teams.

Today, the award-worthy candidates for the Anaheim Ducks at the pause:

It's been a rebuilding season for the Anaheim Ducks, who likely will miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second straight season.

However, there have been some strong performances by the Ducks, mostly by veterans because younger players still are finding their way.

To showcase those performances, here are the top players in various categories:

MVP

Adam Henrique has done it all for the Ducks. He leads them in goals (26) and points (43), as well as in power-play goals (five) and points (nine; tied with Ryan Getzlaf and Rickard Rakell). He also leads Anaheim and is tied for 18th in the NHL in face-off winning percentage (55.0 percent) among players to take at least 500 draws. The center is fourth among Ducks forwards in ice time per game (16:52) but has made a big impact when he has been on the ice.

Rookie

The Ducks have used five rookie skaters this season, but only two have played more than 15 games, forwards Sam Steel and Video: TOR@ANA: Henrique goes upstairs to double lead. Steel, who has 22 points (six goals, 16 assists) in 65 games, including eight on the power play, gets the nod. Anaheim has shown confidence in the 22-year-old center, who plays 15:33 per game and ranks third on the Ducks in face-offs (734), winning 50.3 percent of them.

Defenseman

Although Cam Fowler hasn't played since Feb. 17 because of a lower-body injury, he has been the top defenseman for the Ducks. He's been among their top offensive threats with 29 points (nine goals, 20 assists) in 59 games and is second on Anaheim in ice time per game (21:59) behind defenseman Hampus Lindholm (23:04). Fowler is so valuable that he leads the Ducks in total ice time (1,297:22), five minutes more than the next closest player, Getzlaf, who has played 10 more games. Fowler also has a 51.6 shot attempts percentage, meaning Anaheim had more than 51 percent of all shots attempted with him on the ice at 5-on-5.

Defensive forward

The Ducks have scored 10 shorthanded goals, and of players who remain with them, no one has more shorthanded points than center Carter Rowney (four). His two shorthanded goals are tied with Henrique among remaining players for the Anaheim lead (Derek Grant, traded to the Philadelphia Flyers on Feb. 24, scored three), and Rowney leads the Ducks in shorthanded ice time (168:13) and their forwards in shorthanded ice time per game (2:22). He's also taken the third-most shorthanded face-offs on Anaheim (46).

Comeback player

Fowler was limited to 59 games because of a facial injury last season, when he had 23 points (five goals, 18 assists), including six on the power play, and 88 shots on goal. He wasn't himself when he returned. In 40 games following the injury, Fowler had 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) and was minus-17 in 22:44 of ice time per game. In the 19 games before he was injured, he had 10 points (three goals, seven assists) and was plus-3 in 24:42 of ice time per game. This season, in the same number of games as 2018-19, he has more goals, assists, points, power-play points (eight) and shots on goal (117).
