Barry Trotz Alex Ovechkin Washington Capitals

Washington Capitals coach Barry Trotz knew his captain, Alex Ovechkin, was getting married to his longtime girlfriend, Nastya Shubskaya. He just wasn't sure of the date.
Nonetheless, Trotz is very happy for Ovechkin, who on Sunday posted a picture to Instagram of the two wearing their wedding bands.
"We talked the other day [and] I just asked him if there was anything" to the rumor?" Trotz said Tuesday. "He said, 'Yes.' Then a couple of days ago there was the social media thing he put out. I knew it was happening. I think most of our team knew it was happening, except we didn't know when."

According to Trotz, Ovechkin, who turns 31 on Sept. 17, had been planning to tie the knot with Shubskaya, 22, for a while. Ovechkin will represent Team Russia at the World Cup of Hockey 2016, which runs from Sept. 17 to Oct. 1 in Toronto, before he reports to Washington's training camp. Trotz will be an assistant coach for Team Canada.
"From what I know of his wife, she's really good for him," Trotz said. "He loves her and they got married and I think it's fantastic. I think he's looking forward to starting a family. One thing I've learned about Ovi is he's very family-oriented. You see that with the way he [interacts] with his parents.
"I think he's in a great spot. I'm very, very happy for him. I'll give him a hug when he gets here and congratulate him. It's a good step for him."
