Bay Area enjoying run of spring sports success

It's been an unprecedented spring for San Francisco Bay Area sports fans.
The San Jose Sharks routed the Nashville Predators in Game 7 of the second-round series on Thursday at SAP Center to reach the Western Conference Final for the fourth time in their history. The defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors have also reached their league's Western Conference Finals, eliminating the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 5 on Wednesday at Oracle Arena in Oakland.

This marks the first time the Sharks and Warriors have reached their respective Conference Final in the same season.
According to Elias Sports Bureau, the last time an NHL and NBA team from the same region went this deep in the postseason was 2008, when the Detroit Red Wings and Pistons reached their respective Conference Final. The Red Wings won the Stanley Cup that season; the Pistons did not advance to their championship round, losing to the Boston Celtics in six games.

The last time an NHL/NBA market had its teams reach their respective championship round in the same postseason was when the New Jersey Devils and New Jersey Nets advanced to the Stanley Cup Final and NBA Finals respectively in 2003.
The Sharks kick off their next series when they visit the St. Louis Blues in Game 1 on Sunday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports). The Warriors begin their next round Monday, May 16 at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
None of the Sharks and Warriors games for the upcoming round have been scheduled for the same day, so they could combine to play as many as 14 games in a span of 16 days if each series goes the distance.
