The 21-year-old defenseman set NHL career highs in goals (11) and points (22) in 52 games for the Blue Jackets this season. Selected by the Chicago Blackhawks with the No. 8 pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, he has 51 points (17 goals, 34 assists) in 128 regular-season games for the Blue Jackets and Blackhawks, and no points in eight Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Boqvist was acquired by Columbus in a trade from Chicago on July 23, 2021. He could have become a restricted free agent July 13.
"Adam is a talented, mobile defenseman with the ability and creativity to provide offense from the blueline," Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said. "Despite some injuries, he had a very good first season with our club at the age of 21 and as he gets bigger and stronger, we believe he has the potential to be a very impactful player in this league."
