Binnington honors Blues legend Joseph with 'Cujo'-inspired mask

Jordan Binnington has got a scary new mask he unveiled just in time for Halloween.

called "The Cujo Tribute," which resembles the helmet of former Blues goalie Curtis Joseph.

Joseph played his first 280 NHL games with the Blues and is tied for second in wins among Blues goalies (137) with Binnington's backup Jake Allen. He sported a mask with an image of Cujo the dog, based on the title character from the 1981 novel by Stephen King, for his entire NHL career with the Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red WIngs, Phoenix Coyotes and Calgary Flames.
Binnington will wear the Cujo mask for three home games, Nov. 21 vs. Calgary Flames, Feb. 27 against the New York Islanders and March 31 against the Detroit Red Wings. Aside from the famous dog face, and the script "Cujo," the helmet also features Joseph's face and an action shot of Joseph playing goal on the right side.
"It's cool," Binnington told the Blues website. "Joseph] was a big part of my childhood motivation. It's cool to be in a position where I'm able to wear a mask resembling his and give a small gratitude to the influence he had on not only me but cities of people."
Binnington, who grew up a Maple Leafs fan in Richmond Hill, Ontario during Joseph's tenure there, attended the same goalie school as Joseph and once received a custom Cujo-inspired mask from his dad.
"My dad put me in that goalie school for nine weeks every summer for six or seven years," Binnington told the Blues website. "There were some days [Joseph] would come in and train there. ... It was great for us young goalies to be able to see him work like that."
When the time came for Binnington to choose a newly designed helmet, he knew what he had to do. David Gunnarsson of Daveart put together the finished product, and Binnington was ecstatic with how it came out.
"David did an incredible job," Binnington said. "He really just understands what I'm going for."
