Bjorge, 20, created a twitter account and invited Boeser to prom, but her mother, Katie Marcotte, who didn't know about the invitation, shut down the account before Boeser attempted to respond. He was able to get in touch with Marcotte, who knew nothing about him.
"I was blown away that someone with his status would seek out my daughter to make her special," Marcotte told NHL.com.
Originally, Bjorge wasn't going to attend prom, and the family is currently on vacation in Florida, but after Boeser accepted, she bought her dress.
"We were playing tennis and Brock Boeser got in touch with me and I asked my son [Boe] who said, 'Mom, he's one of the country's top players.' He said we have to go back for this," Marcotte said. "We planned a family trip in Florida and changed our flight to go."
Boeser, 19. was selected by the Canucks in the first round (No. 23) of the 2015 NHL Draft. He also tied for first in goals (35) in 2014-15 in the United States Hockey League, won a bronze medal with the U.S. at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, and helped North Dakota win the National Championship this season.
"She was so excited for days," Marcotte said. "We had a welcoming home party and she was there and saw the players. She has been a fan of [North Dakota] for years. The teammates have always known her. She's been one of their biggest fans. She plays soccer for Special Olympics and has met the players. She's contacted [Washington Capitals forward and former North Dakota player] T.J. Oshie, and a lot of former North Dakota Players."
Bjorge and her family haven't met Boeser yet.
"It will be Saturday," Marcotte said. "He is going to come to our home and take pictures."
