Coach Bruce Cassidy said the forward was "feeling a lot better" Saturday after he sustained an upper-body injury in a 4-3 win against the Washington Capitals on Thursday on a hit from forward Garnet Hathaway at 6:48 of the second period.
"He's going to go for warmups, so there's a chance he'll play, which is a great sign," Cassidy said. "If it's not today, it would be Monday for sure then, if he's that close. So, happy to see that."
Cassidy had said Friday that the Bruins expected Marchand to miss at least one game.
Bruins forward Anton Blidh, who sustained an upper-body injury Thursday, will not play against the Jets.
If Marchand does not play Saturday, Cassidy said forward Jake DeBrusk would move up in the lineup. DeBrusk played with center Patrice Bergeron and forward Craig Smith on the top line Thursday after Marchand was injured and scored two points (one goal, one assist). He has scored 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 32 games this season.
"He played some good hockey," Cassidy said. "With 'Marchy' and [Taylor] Hall playing well, he's third line, that's where he's slotted and that's where we need him to play well. Now with Marchy out, there's an opportunity to play a little bit more. And last night he took advantage of it, and hopefully he does again tomorrow."
DeBrusk, who scored 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 41 games last season, requested a trade in November.
"Last night, it was Jake for us," Bruins forward Nick Foligno said Friday. "He steps into that role and does a great job in getting two big goals for us, setting up the game-winner. It's nice to see. It's what this team does well.
"It seems like we've always had that next-man-up mentality, and we're going to need that to replace a guy like Brad for, I'm sure it won't be too long, with the way his mindset is."
Cassidy said he expected Hall to step in for Marchand on the half wall on the power play, and for Foligno, among others, to play some of the penalty-kill minutes that Marchand usually plays if he is out.
Marchand leads the Bruins in goals (20), assists (23), points (43) and power-play points (17) in 32 games. He is second in power-play time per game (3:17) behind forward David Pastrnak (3:26), and plays 1:37 shorthanded per game.
"I think you saw it last night," Foligno said. "When you lose a player like Brad Marchand, who's probably the best winger in the game right now, left winger especially, what he brings to our team not only as a player but leadership-wise, every guy wants to step up because of the way he steps up for us every night.
"When you hear a guy like him go down injured who he'll fight through anything to play, other guys know it's on them."
