And, no, it's not just being an assistant coach for Team Canada in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, as he was earlier this week.
It's as first base coach for his son's youth baseball team. And, just like with hockey, Cassidy's players are aggressive and successful.
"It's a lot of fun," Cassidy told hosts Jackie Redmond and Darren Pang on 'NHL Tonight' this week. "I actually coach first base. I send them all the time. I'm 36 for 36 on stolen bases this year."
Cassidy's 10-year-old son, Cole, is a standout left-handed pitcher for the 10U Winchester team, which has been storming through the Bay State Tournament in Massachusetts the past few weeks. Their most recent victory came on Wednesday night, 11-5 over Reading Red, with Cole Cassidy on the mound.
"He throws only a fastball but he thinks he's throwing like a 3-seam cutter and all this stuff. He's 10 right, so I'm like just throw it across the plate and force them to hit it," Cassidy joked when asked what Cole's best pitch was, noting throwing curveballs at too early an age can be dangerous. "He likes to think he's got a few different pitches. They all do. But it's great to watch the kids.. Good team too. They don't rely on one player. They're a great group."
Cassidy noted that heading into Wednesday's game the weather was mild, despite what his attire might suggest.
"We'll be rooting them on. It's not that cold here but I got my gloves here just in case," he said, holding up his hands which had heavy-knitted mittens featuring Canada's Maple Leaf Flag on them.
While he won't need them in Massachussets in August, he may want to pack them for Beijing.
