Jarvis nets 2 goals in 5-1 Hurricanes Game 5 victory

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Seth Jarvis scored twice to help the Carolina Hurricanes defeat the Boston Bruins 5-1 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference First Round at PNC Arena on Tuesday.

Carolina leads the best-of-7 series 3-2. Game 6 is at Boston on Thursday.
Tony DeAngelo and Vincent Trocheck each had a goal and two assists, Teuvo Teravainen had three assists, and Antti Raanta made 34 saves for the Hurricanes, the No. 1 seed in the Metropolitan Division.
"That's what goaltending does," Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "That team is going to generate opportunities and certainly did, and Raanta] was good."
Connor Clifton scored, and Jeremy Swayman made 33 saves for the Bruins, the first wild card from the East.
"Not enough up and down the lineup," Boston coach Bruce Cassidy said. "We're going to need a little bit more, whether it's working hard to keep the puck out of the net, blocking shots, finishing checks so guys can't join the rush. We need to get some guys going."

Jaccob Slavin gave Carolina a 1-0 lead at 6:11 of the first with a wrist shot that trickled through Swayman.
Raanta made his best save at 7:14, when he waited out Boston forward Brad Marchand, who was alone in front, and made a glove save on a backhand.
"A lot of what-ifs in the game. It doesn't matter," Marchand said. "All that matters is we let this one go. Whether you win or lose, you've got to have the same recipe. You've got to let it go. It's all about the next one now."

DeAngelo pushed the lead to 2-0 at 12:17 of the first when he one-timed a pass from Teravainen on the power play.
"He's so fiery, so competitive, that everyone knew he was going to be coming out hot," Jarvis said of DeAngelo. "To have a game like he did was huge for us."
Jarvis made it 3-0 at 15:52 of the second period. He fell to the ice and swiped at a rebound, knocking it in off the right skate of Boston forward Jake DeBrusk.
"[Swayman] had a bit of tough luck," Cassidy said. "He gave us a chance after that. There was a stretch there we weren't very good in front of him. I'm certainly not putting this on Jeremy. We need to finish a little better when we get our opportunities."

"You love seeing that from a young kid that comes in and earns his way in the League and earns his way up the chart in every aspect of the game," Brind'Amour said. "I can't say enough good things about him."
Clifton cut it to 4-1 at 10:09 when he took a pass from Erik Haula in the neutral zone and scored through the five-hole on the rush.
Trocheck scored into an empty net for the 5-1 final at 16:20.
