What do you get the Boston Bruins legend who has done and seen it all in during his extraordinary life spent in hockey?
A spin around the ice. At least, a spin around the ice while seated.
Johnny Bucyk, who played 21 of his 23 NHL seasons for the Bruins, celebrated his 88th birthday on Friday. In terms of gifts, well there's not much you can get a two-time Stanley Cup champion, former NHL All-Star, two-time Lady Byng Memorial Trohpy winner and member of the 100 Greatest NHL Players list.
Bucyk, amazingly in his over six decades working with the team in some capacity, had never cleaned the ice at TD Garden.
Well, this birthday, the team changed that.
Through almost 66 years with the #NHLBruins organization, there was one thing that Johnny Bucyk hadn’t gotten the chance to do:
Clean the ice on Causeway.
So, last week – just ahead of his 88th birthday – the B’s legend finally got his wish. 🧊 pic.twitter.com/JkN4Q8dC8W
