Tuukka Rask made 27 saves. Charlie McAvoy had two assists.
"We were down, I think, two or three times, so obviously a tight game, a very close game, and you could tell that both teams had a lot of energy and were well-rested," Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara said. "It was a tight game and it was nice to get two points."
Max Pacioretty, Nicolas Deslauriers and Alex Galchenyuk scored for Montreal (18-20-5), which won consecutive games prior to a five-day break. Paul Byron scored in the shootout, and Carey Price made 29 saves.

Krejci tied it at 3-3 with his seventh goal at 17:42 of the second period.

Canadiens forward Phillip Danault was removed from the ice on a stretcher after he was hit in the head by a shot from Chara at 18:23 of the second period.
Danault remained on the ice for more than 10 minutes before he was removed by medical personnel.
"I wanted to make sure that he was OK," said Chara, who leaned down to talk to Danault. "He was talking to me and responding, so that made me feel better that he's responding and he's OK, and he's not in a condition that he's not responding. So I was glad that he was doing OK and he's hopefully going to recover."
Play was halted at that point and the remaining 1:37 of the second period was played before the third.
"There was a lot of juggling going on there in the third period, just trying to keep everybody going," Julien said. "And the pace of the game, as you all saw, was a real good pace. So it was important to put some fresh guys out there and keep everybody involved."
Danault got an assist when Pacioretty scored for a third straight game to give Montreal a 1-0 lead at 3:22 of the first period.
Marchand tied it at 1-1 with his 18th goal, on a power play at 17:40.

DeBrusk gave Boston a 2-1 lead with his 10th goal at 2:55 of the second period.
Deslauriers drew Montreal even at 2-2 with his fifth goal at 5:45.
Galchenyuk made it 3-2 on a power play at 8:51. It was his 100th NHL goal in his 379th game.
