Pastrnak ends it in OT, propels Bruins past Senators

David Pastrnak scored 2:42 into overtime to give the Boston Bruins a 3-2 win against the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa on Saturday.

Pastrnak took a one-timer, set up by Taylor Hall, from the left face-off circle that went in off the right post for his 25th goal of the season and fifth NHL overtime goal.
"It's been a little bit of a grind lately," said Pastrnak, who hadn't scored in four games. "It was a nice goal, but overall, it's a big win for us to end the [four-game] road trip. We know it wasn't pretty. … You never want to come back home from the road trip without wins. So today was a big one."

Jeremy Swayman made 29 saves, and Jake DeBrusk and Brandon Carlo scored for the Bruins (28-17-4), who had lost four of five. Swayman has allowed three goals on 95 shots in his past three starts, including 30 saves in a 2-0 win against the Senators on Feb. 12.
Nick Holden scored the tying goal late in the third period, and Tim Stutzle scored in his 100th NHL game for the Senators (18-25-5), who have lost four of six. Anton Forsberg made 30 saves.
"I thought we played well," Forsberg said. "Played really well. It was a really good hockey game out there. It's a tough loss. It's on me. I thought we battled hard. We battled back. I thought it was a great hockey game."
DeBrusk gave Boston a 1-0 lead at 2:37 of the second period. After a pass from Jack Studnicka deflected up, DeBrusk used a backhand to bat it out of the air from the slot to end his six-game point drought.
"I liked it," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said of DeBrusk's game. "Much more involved, competitive. Hung onto pucks in the [offensive] zone. He has talent offensively. We asked him to be more competitive. These are some of the kinds of examples [being] on the puck in the O zone.
Stutzle tied it 1-1 at 6:45 on a wrist shot from left of the net off a rebound from Artem Zub. It was Ottawa's first goal in 113:35 against Swayman, since Nikita Zaitsev scored at 13:09 of the second period on Nov. 9.
"A lot of things I was happy with," Senators coach D.J. Smith said. "I thought we turned it over too much, but the compete level was really high. That was probably one of the more physical games in the last month, I'd say."
Carlo gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead at 18:54 after being a game-time decision. Charlie Coyle passed from behind the net off Senators defenseman Josh Brown, who tried to scoop it with his glove along the goal line, and Forsberg dove forward in an attempt to freeze the puck before Carlo scored on a backhand.
After being cut on the left wrist by goalie Linus Ullmark's skate during the morning skate, Carlo had two shots on goal, one hit and two blocks in 21:15 of ice time. The defenseman said he received stitches.
"I just fell on the ice right in front of the net there," Carlo said. "As I was going down, I caught my forearm a little bit. Luckily, it was a really nice clean cut and in the right spot. It didn't reach all the way to the muscle. That was a good thing."

Tyler Ennis nearly tied it twice during a power play early in the third period. He put a backhand off the right post at 6:23 before Swayman slid to his left for a glove save to deny a wrist shot at 6:25.
Holden tied it 2-2 with a wrist shot from the slot with 3:54 remaining.
"We gave ourselves a 60-minute effort there," Senators forward Brady Tkachuk said. "Get us to overtime, and then anything happens in 3-on-3. … I think there were a lot of great efforts tonight. Everybody stepped up against a great team that's been a great team for a bunch of years now. It was definitely a fun one to be a part of, but obviously we wish we could get that extra point."
NOTES: Stutzle has scored 54 points (22 goals, 32 assists) in his 100 games. … Boston forward Brad Marchand served the fifth of a six-game suspension for roughing and high-sticking Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry on Feb. 8. He is eligible to return Feb. 24 at the Seattle Kraken. … Goalie Filip Gustavsson will start for Ottawa against the New York Rangers on Sunday, Smith said.
