Zane McIntyre's mask is tribute to late grandmother

Zane McIntyre is just starting his NHL career with the Boston Bruins, but his Grandma Susie has been with him since he first put on a pair of skates.
McIntyre made his first appearance for the Bruins on Tuesday and made his first start Wednesday against the New York Rangers,

She's the one who got him into hockey and shuttled him around to every game and tournament when he was growing up. In an interview with the
Grand Forks Herald in 2015
, he recalled going to a hockey camp in Faribault, Minnesota where he shared a tiny room and a twin bed with her for six days, and loved every minute of it.

Susan McIntyre was a chair of the University of North Dakota's occupational therapy department and had men's ice hockey season tickets, which is how Zane caught the hockey bug.
After she died in 2011, her students made shirts with a sketch of her on it and Zane commissioned an artist to put a version of the sketch with her signature hair, glasses and Diet Coke on his mask. He used the same artwork on his mask at North Dakota and now with the Bruins.
He also legally changed his last name from Gothberg to McIntyre in 2014 to honor her.
