Pastrnak matches Jagr with fourth straight Czech Player of Year award

David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins won the Golden Hockey Stick as Czech Player of the Year for the fourth straight season, tying former NHL forward Jaromir Jagr for the most consecutive victories.

"I want to hold a cup for the world champions and a Stanley Cup above my head," the 24-year-old said. "This is a pure individual trophy. I am very honored to have it, it is an inspiration for me. But I don't play golf or tennis, so I won't favor myself before my team."

The Bruins forward won the Rocket Richard Trophy for the first time this season, his 48 goals tying Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals for the NHL lead, and his 95 points tied Artemi Panarin of the New York Rangers for third place, behind Edmonton Oilers forwards Leon Draisaitl (110) and Connor McDavid (97).

Pastrnak was first on 51 of 52 ballots in a vote of Czech hockey journalists and coaches. Chicago Blackhawks forward Dominik Kubalik, who led NHL rookies with 30 goals, was second, and Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek was third.

Jagr has won the award a record 12 times, including four straight from 2005-08. Pastrnak's four wins are tied with Vladimir Martinec for third, behind Jagr and Hockey Hall of Fame goalie Dominik Hasek (five).

Bruins center David Krejci was seventh in voting, his 10th top-10 finish. He won the award in 2013.

The NHL season was paused March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus. Pastrnak helped the Bruins win the Presidents' Trophy, and they will play in the round-robin portion of the Stanley Cup Qualifiers, which will determine the order of the top four seeds in the Eastern Conference. The start date and hub city for the Cup Qualifiers has not been announced.

Selected by the Bruins in the first round (No. 25) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Pastrnak has 379 points (180 goals, 199 assists) in 390 regular-season games and 43 points (17 goals, 26 assists) in 42 Stanley Cup Playoff games. That includes 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) in 24 games when the Bruins reached the 2019 Stanley Cup Final, which they lost to the St. Louis Blues.
