Jan. 8 – Kulich week to week with lower-body injury; Kozak recalled from Amerks

Jiri Kulich is considered week to week after exiting Monday’s win over Washington with a lower-body injury, coach Lindy Ruff announced.

Kulich has nine points (7+2) in 31 games this season, seven of which have come in the past 14 contests as the 20-year-old has continued to gain confidence and experience at the NHL level.

“It’s a loss for us, because of how well he played in the middle and the speed he was generating,” Ruff said. “He was getting a lot of confidence with the puck and making more plays and finishing some really good opportunities.”

The Sabres recalled Tyson Kozak from Rochester on Wednesday morning. He centered a line with Sam Lafferty and Nicolas Aube-Kubel in the absence of Beck Malenstyn, who is not expected to travel for Thursday’s game in Ottawa due to an illness.

Kozak, 22, played three games during a stint with Buffalo in December, during which he scored his first NHL goal. He has 12 points (6+6) in 24 games with Rochester.

Jan. 8 – Helenius, Wahlberg reassigned to Amerks

The Sabres reassigned forwards Konsta Helenius and Anton Wahlberg to the Rochester Americans following the completion of the IIHF World Junior Championship.

Helenius won a silver medal with Finland and tied for fourth in the tournament with six assists. Wahlberg had eight points (4+4) for Sweden, which lost in the Bronze Medal Game.

The rookie duo returns to a Rochester team that sits atop the North Division standings after winning its past six games. Helenius has 17 points (6+11) in 28 games with the Amerks this season; Wahlberg has 10 points (4+6) in 25 games.

The Sabres assigned forward Olivier Nadeau from Rochester to ECHL Jacksonville in a corresponding move.

Injury report

Jordan Greenway, F (middle body) – Out since Dec. 17

Greenway missed the Dec. 17 game at Montreal and underwent surgery for his middle-body injury.

Coach Lindy Ruff said Greenway will miss a "significant amount of time" but that the injury "doesn't appear to be season-ending."

Greenway watched the Jan. 6 morning skate from the bench, after which Ruff provided an update on his recovery progress.

"Just back with the team, just starting to work out," Ruff said. "So, the very early stages of the second phase of post-surgery."– Last updated Jan. 6
