Jan. 8 – Kulich week to week with lower-body injury; Kozak recalled from Amerks
Jiri Kulich is considered week to week after exiting Monday’s win over Washington with a lower-body injury, coach Lindy Ruff announced.
Kulich has nine points (7+2) in 31 games this season, seven of which have come in the past 14 contests as the 20-year-old has continued to gain confidence and experience at the NHL level.
“It’s a loss for us, because of how well he played in the middle and the speed he was generating,” Ruff said. “He was getting a lot of confidence with the puck and making more plays and finishing some really good opportunities.”
The Sabres recalled Tyson Kozak from Rochester on Wednesday morning. He centered a line with Sam Lafferty and Nicolas Aube-Kubel in the absence of Beck Malenstyn, who is not expected to travel for Thursday’s game in Ottawa due to an illness.
Kozak, 22, played three games during a stint with Buffalo in December, during which he scored his first NHL goal. He has 12 points (6+6) in 24 games with Rochester.
Jan. 8 – Helenius, Wahlberg reassigned to Amerks
The Sabres reassigned forwards Konsta Helenius and Anton Wahlberg to the Rochester Americans following the completion of the IIHF World Junior Championship.
Helenius won a silver medal with Finland and tied for fourth in the tournament with six assists. Wahlberg had eight points (4+4) for Sweden, which lost in the Bronze Medal Game.
The rookie duo returns to a Rochester team that sits atop the North Division standings after winning its past six games. Helenius has 17 points (6+11) in 28 games with the Amerks this season; Wahlberg has 10 points (4+6) in 25 games.
The Sabres assigned forward Olivier Nadeau from Rochester to ECHL Jacksonville in a corresponding move.
