Defenseman Jake McCabe signed a three-year contract Thursday to remain with the Buffalo Sabres.
The Associated Press reports it is worth $4.8 million, an average annual value of $1.6 million.
McCabe, 22, could have become a restricted free agent Friday.

McCabe, who was selected by the Sabres in the second round (No. 44) of the 2012 NHL Draft, had four goals, 14 points and was plus-6 in 77 games this season. It was his first full season in the NHL after playing 2014-15 with Rochester of the American Hockey League, where he had five goals and 29 points in 57 games.
The Eau Claire, Wisc., native has played for the United States twice at the IIHF World Championship (2014, 2016) and was captain for the U.S. when it won the gold medal at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship.
