Mitchell Marner had a goal and three assists for the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 5-3 win against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre on Wednesday.
Marner scored shorthanded 16 seconds into the third period to give the Maple Leafs a 3-2 lead, and Kasperi Kapanen made it 4-2 with another shorthanded goal 20 seconds later. David Schlemko cut it to 4-3 with a power-play goal at 1:16 of the third period before Patrick Marleau made it 5-3 at 14:08. Tomas Tatar scored a power-play goal to give Montreal a 1-0 lead at 4:00 of the first period. Nazem Kadri tied it 1-1 with a power-play goal at 18:11. Auston Matthews gave the Maple Leafs a 2-1 lead on the power play at 1:14 of the second period before Brendan Gallagher tied it 2-2 at 6:59. Frederik Andersen made 33 saves for Toronto, and Carey Price made 21 for Montreal.
