DAL CGY 11.28 recap

CALGARY -- Tyler Seguin scored 24 seconds into overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 4-3 win against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday.

Jason Spezza, Jamie Benn and
Gavin Bayreuther
scored, and Anton Khudobin made 30 saves for the Stars (13-10-3), who had lost their previous two games, including 1-0 in overtime at the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.
"It's a good feeling that you get results for how we play," Seguin said. "Last night, we grind it out, and the Dallas Stars were in overtime in a 0-0 game. You don't see that too much. Tonight, we found a way to win again, so we got to keep grinding those out on the road. We're finding something. We have a belief in here on the road now."

Garnet Hathaway, Johnny Gaudreau and Mark Giordano scored, and David Rittich made 24 saves for the Flames (14-9-2), who have lost two of three after a three-game winning streak.
"We're fortunate to get a point out of the game tonight," coach Bill Peters said. "I didn't think we were very good. I didn't think our attention to detail was very good and our commitment to doing it right wasn't where it needs to be to get two points."
Seguin shot by Rittich's glove from the slot after taking a pass from Benn. The goal was upheld after video review determined incidental contact between Benn and Rittich did not impair Rittich from playing his position.

EA Sports Overtime Winner: Seguin seals win for Stars

"The goalie got square so I didn't think that there was any goalie interference with that," said Seguin, who has eight points (three goals, five assists) in his past seven games.
Calgary took a 3-2 lead with goals 1:10 apart in the middle of the third period.
Gaudreau shot over Khudobin's glove on the power play to tie it 2-2 at 9:41, and Giordano shot through a screen to make it 3-2 at 10:51.

DAL@CGY: Giordano roofs shot over Khudobin's glove

But Bayreuther tied it 3-3 with a shot through traffic at 13:15.
"We had complete control when we took the lead," Giordano said. "We gave them the tie and just cost ourselves a point with a couple bad plays. It's tough to swallow right now, honestly, I thought we should have won that one."
Bayreuther, a rookie defenseman, said of his goal, "You've got to give credit where credit is due: The forwards out there forechecked. There were many times Calgary could've got the puck out of the zone. They were very relentless. Luckily, the puck squeaked to me in the high slot. I just threw it on net."

DAL@CGY: Bayreuther pots wrist shot through traffic

Spezza scored on the first shot of the game to give the Stars a 1-0 lead 41 seconds in when he one-timed a pass from Radek Faksa.
Hathaway one-timed a pass from Mark Jankowski that trickled past Khudobin to tie it 1-1 at 16:39.
Benn redirected a pass through the crease from Seguin on the power play to put Dallas up 2-1 at 18:02 of the second period. It was the Stars' first power-play goal in five games and ended an 0-for-11 drought.
"It puts a smile on [coach Jim Montgomery's] face, for one," said Benn, who has three goals in his past four games. "It gives us a little bit of confidence. We know it hasn't been the best."

              They said it

"We stuck with it. It wasn't our best, but we found a way to get two big points on a back-to-back in a tough building against a good team." -- Stars captain Jamie Benn

"Losing [stinks], obviously. Losing that way, it's even worse. You come back in a game and get a lead, then give it back and give them an easy one there in overtime. That's on us, that's on me, and I take the fall for that." -- Flames forward Sean Monahan
