      EDM@VAN: Draisaitl rips home a one-timer for a PPG

VANCOUVER -- Leon Draisaitl and Warren Foegele scored power-play goals when the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 at Rogers Arena on Saturday.

Connor McDavid had an assist for the Oilers, ending his multipoint streak to start the season at six games.
McDavid leads the NHL with 16 points (seven goals, nine assists), including nine (four goals, five assists) on an Oilers power play that went 2-for-2 against the Canucks and leads the NHL at 47.8 percent.
"There's a lot of special talent on that first unit there and we get to watch it on the bench just like you guys," said Foegele, who plays on the second power-play unit. "They're moving the puck well, they're creating a lot of chances and just stay hot."
Mikko Koskinen made 29 saves for Edmonton (6-1-0), which bounced back from its first loss of the season Wednesday to the Philadelphia Flyers.
"It starts with Mikko," forward Zach Hyman said. "He made some huge saves, so can't have a game like that without him and it was a good game. We bounced back after a loss, on the road playing a good Vancouver team and get the win. Great team effort."
Thatcher Demko made 32 saves and Brock Boeser scored his 100th NHL goal with six seconds left for the Canucks (3-5-1), who have lost the first three of a seven-game homestand.
"It was a hard-fought hockey game tonight," Canucks coach Travis Green said. "I don't like losing. Our team doesn't like losing, but I thought we probably took a step in the right direction for some of our guys."
Foegele converted a rebound at the side of the net with one second left on the Oilers' first man-advantage to make it 1-0 at 11:39 of the first period.

EDM@VAN: Foegele tuck home loose puck for PPG

Draisaitl made it 2-0 at 18:20 of the second on a one-timer from the bottom of the left face-off circle that went over the outstretched pad of Demko.
"This power play, every time they're out there wants to score and thinks that they can score," Hyman said. "We don't really think about the numbers or the percentages, it's just let's go get a goal."
McDavid assisted on the goal, extending his point streak to seven games to start the season. Demko stopped McDavid twice on breakaways in the third period, leaving the Oilers captain one game short of tying the Edmonton record for multipoint games to start a season (Wayne Gretzky, 1983-84).
"He's going to get his chances no matter what, but you hold him to a power-play point and two power-play goals at the end of the day against them, it is a good job at 5-on-5," Canucks forward Bo Horvat said. "But we've got to find a way to win those hockey games. When you do hold a team like Edmonton to two goals, you've got to figure out a way to score three."
Koskinen, making his fourth straight start with No. 1 goalie Mike Smith injured, made his best saves on a late Canucks power play with Demko pulled for an extra attacker, robbing Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Boeser before Boeser ended his shutout bid with a high blocker shot from inside the left face-off dot.
"'Koskie' really made some big saves there late, so it's tough to see him lose a shutout. But that being said, it's a good two points," Oilers coach Dave Tippett said.
Boeser hopes it can be a springboard for a Canucks team struggling to score.
"Hopefully just getting that last one, the floodgates will open up," Boeser said.
NOTES: Smith (lower body) traveled with the Oilers and participated in the morning skate Saturday. He remains day to day, according to Tippett, but could return Monday at home against the Seattle Kraken. … Canucks defenseman Tucker Poolman had two hits and three blocked shots after missing one game with an upper-body injury. … Vancouver center Jason Dickinson played 11:44 in his return after missing two games with an undisclosed injury. … Canucks defenseman Luke Schenn played 14:13 and had four hits and one blocked shot in his 800th NHL game.
