Flames score 3 late to shock Stars, win it 4-3

DALLAS -- The Calgary Flames scored three goals late in the third period to defeat the Dallas Stars 4-3 at American Airlines Center on Tuesday.

Andrew Mangiapane, Johnny Gaudreau and Oliver Kylington scored in a 3:37 span for the Flames (22-13-6), who won for the sixth time since Jan. 1 (6-6-0).
"It was a great comeback victory," Mangiapane said. "Obviously, we don't want to be down in games, but that's our first time getting a comeback victory here. I think that maybe we [have to] do a better job playing a full 60, and just sharpen up the little things."
Jacob Markstrom allowed three goals on 23 shots before being replaced to start the third period by Dan Vladar, who made five saves. It was the first time a Flames goalie had been pulled this season.
"Sometimes you've got to give the guys a little bit of a message and it was a good move by [coach Darryl Sutter]," Calgary associate Kirk Muller said. "[It] had nothing to do with [Markstrom], we play back to back (Wednesday against the Arizona Coyotes). It was just like, 'Hey, you know what, we've got a new guy coming in, you better play hard for him.' So, it was a good call."
Joel Hanley scored his first regular-season goal in his 100th NHL game, and Jake Oettinger made 36 saves for the Stars (23-18-2), who have lost twice in their past seven games (5-2-0).
"I hate beating ourselves," Dallas coach Rick Bowness said. "If a team comes in here and we play well and they beat us, we live with that. But when we beat ourselves like we did tonight, that's very frustrating."

CGY@DAL: Lewis capitalizes on 2-on-1, goes near side

Trevor Lewis made it 1-0 at 1:54 of the first period off a 2-on-1 with Adam Ruzicka.
Hanley tied it 1-1 at 4:26 when his shot from the point bounced through Markstrom's legs.
Jason Robertson gave the Stars a 2-1 lead with a goal from the high slot at 18:12.
Jamie Benn backhanded in a rebound atop the crease to make it 3-1 at 11:20 of the second period.
"We talked before the game about killing plays and not allowing them to create their offense from their speed and coming through the neutral zone," Muller said. "We didn't penetrate enough up ice and we made it easy on them. They broke out for two periods and didn't give us any O-zone time, so it was hard to create any offense.
"But the third period, we got working harder, we got moving, we killed plays [and] we created some turnovers. We spent some O-zone time in the third. We did a better job getting pucks to the net and getting guys there. The results were what we were looking for."
Mangiapane cut the lead to 3-2 at 14:36 of the third period with his 20th goal of the season, 19th on the road.
Gaudreau tied it 3-3 at 15:13 after Matthew Tkachuk tried a wraparound.
"We got what we deserved," Robertson said. "We stepped off the gas pedal and they took it to us."
Kylington scored on a give-and-go at 18:13 for the 4-3 final.
"I wasn't thinking much," Kylington said about the lead-up to his goal. "I think everyone that was touching the puck made a great play. I was just happy to see the puck in the net."

CGY@DAL: Kylington takes lead on 3-on-2 rush chance

Calgary outshot Dallas 18-5 in the third period.
"I think it's really disappointing," Hanley said. "We're obviously going to be battling with this team all year. It would have been huge for us to come away with two points. I think we just have to move past this and look to the future. If we can play like we did versus Boston [Bruins in a 6-1 win Sunday] and in the first two periods [tonight], I think we're going to be fine."
NOTES:Stars forward Riley Damiani got his first NHL assist on Hanley's goal. … Robertson has scored nine points (four goals, five assists) in his past seven games. … Dallas forward Tyler Seguin, who got an assist on Benn's goal, has scored four points (two goals, two assists) in the past two games. … Gaudreau has scored 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) in his past 12 games.
