Grundstrom, Kempe power Kings' 8-2 rout of Flames

LOS ANGELES --The Los Angeles Kings scored four goals in the first period and extended their point streak to 10 games with an 8-2 win against the Calgary Flames at Crypto.com Arena on Monday.

Los Angeles, which is 8-0-2 during the streak, moved into a tie with the Vegas Golden Knights for first place in the Pacific Division. Vegas has a game in hand.
Adrian Kempe had two goals and an assist, and Carl Grundstrom scored twice for the Kings (41-20-10). Pheonix Copley made 16 saves and is 5-0-2 in his past seven starts.
"We got the lead early and then we didn't look back from there," Los Angeles forward Quinton Byfield said. "We came out, played our game right at the start. We took the lead and just kept playing the right way. The goals just kept coming for us tonight."

Jacob Markstrom allowed six goals on 26 shots and was replaced after the second period for the Flames (31-25-15), who had their four-game point streak (2-0-2) end. Dan Vladar made 11 saves in relief.
Calgary, which visits the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, remained four points behind the Winnipeg Jets for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.
"It was a brutal game," Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson said. "You know, there's nothing more to say really. Quick turnaround. We've got to be better tomorrow."

CGY@LAK: Doughty takes advantage of traffic for goal

Grundstrom scored for the third straight game to give the Kings a 1-0 lead at 8:15 of the first, and Drew Doughty scored for the third time in four games with a wrist shot from the top of the right face-off circle at 11:16 to make it 2-0.
Gabriel Vilardi gave Los Angeles a 3-0 lead at 12:13, chipping in Alex Iafallo's pass from below the goal line.
Viktor Arvidsson made it 4-0 on a power play at 15:46 on a one-timer from the left circle.
The Kings outshot the Flames 14-3 in the first.
"They jumped all over us over the mistakes we made in the first period," Calgary coach Darryl Sutter said.

Tyler Toffoli cut it to 4-1 on a power play 34 seconds into the second period on a one-timer from the slot.
Kempe gave the Kings a 5-1 lead at 8:17 on a breakaway, then scored again at 12:44 with a wrist shot from the right circle to make it 6-1.
"I thought our puck pressure and our tenacity was at its best, both when we had the puck and when we didn't. It allowed us to create turnovers and take advantage of them," Los Angeles coach Todd McLellan said.
Noah Hanifin cut it to 6-2 at 9:01 of the third period, but Mikey Anderson scored with a wrist shot from the right circle on a 4-on-3 power play at 12:31 to give the Kings a 7-2 lead.
Grundstrom scored on a 2-on-1 rush at 15:51 for the 8-2 final.
