CGY@OTT: Dzingel snipes a goal for 1-0 lead in 1st

OTTAWA--
Filip Gustavsson
made 35 saves for the Ottawa Senators in his first NHL start, a 2-1 win against the Calgary Flames at Canadian Tire Centre on Monday.

"I got a good sleep yesterday, but today, even the whole morning skate, was like little butterflies in the stomach and a little hard to eat," Gustavsson said. "But when I got the first shot on net and the first power play came, it felt like I was in the game, and then [the butterflies] were gone."
Ottawa turned to Gustavsson with goalies Matt Murray, Marcus Hogberg and Joey Daccord all injured. The 22-year-old made eight saves in his NHL debut Wednesday after Daccord was injured in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks.
"He did everything in there tonight," Senators coach D.J. Smith said of Gustavsson. "He looked calm, made the saves he had to make. We hung him out on that breakaway there at the end, but he did everything that you want your goalie to do."
Ryan Dzingel and Chris Tierney scored for the Senators (11-20-3).
"We battled really hard," Smith said. "Defensively, we were blocking shots and boxing out. That was a hard-fought game. They gave us no room."

Johnny Gaudreau scored, and Jacob Markstrom made 21 saves for the Flames (15-15-3), who are 1-3-0 in their past four games.
"Our top two lines will probably have to produce higher-level scoring chances," Calgary coach Darryl Sutter said.
Tierney found a loose puck in the slot and lifted a wrist shot over Markstrom's glove to make it 2-1 with 2:36 remaining in the third period. It was Tierney's first goal in 30 games.
"This hurts," Flames forward Elias Lindholm said. "It was a game we needed."
Dzingel elected to shoot on a 2-on-1 and scored with a wrist shot into the top left corner to give the Senators a 1-0 lead at 10:23 of the first period. He has scored five goals in nine games since being traded to Ottawa from the Carolina Hurricanes on Feb. 13; he played his first five NHL seasons with the Senators.
"I like being here and I like putting that sweater on," Dzingel said. "It just feels normal to me because I've been here for so long, development camp when I was 18 years old. I'm playing with really good linemates right now."
Gaudreau tied it 1-1 at 14:54 of the third when he took a stretch pass from Milan Lucic and scored with a wrist shot into the top right corner on a breakaway.
"This team has trouble scoring goals," Sutter said. "It's not a two-game thing. … We'll have to check for chances."
NOTES: Senators forward Austin Watson blocked a shot in the final seconds of the game and went straight to the locker room. Smith did not have an update. … The Flames are 4-3-0 under Sutter, who replaced Geoff Ward as coach March 4.
