Lindholm, Coleman propel Flames past Kraken

SEATTLE -- Elias Lindholm and Blake Coleman each had a goal and two assists for the Calgary Flames in a 5-2 win against the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena on Friday.

Each of Lindholm's points came during a three-goal first period for Calgary, which lost 5-1 to the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.
"We definitely needed to beat these guys," Flames forward Tyler Toffoli said. "They're ahead of us [in the standings]. It was a playoff atmosphere. Fans were awesome here, and like I said we needed a win, and we did a great job."
Toffoli had a goal and an assist, and Mikael Backlund had two assists for the Flames (24-17-9), who played their last game before their bye week. They return Feb. 6 at the New York Rangers.
Dan Vladar made 29 saves for Calgary and is 10-0-3 since Nov. 29.
"Obviously, the guys played great in front of me," Vladar said. "Totally different group than last night and you know after that terrible game yesterday, we came back. I don't think anyone's happy right now because we should have had four out of four [points]."

John Hayden and Eeli Tolvanen scored, and Martin Jones made 33 saves for the Kraken (28-15-5), who are 2-1-1 on a five-game homestand that concludes Saturday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
"We weren't very good tonight, that's all," Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. "Our group wasn't good, especially in the middle portion of the game. We had no energy, and that's top to bottom. We didn't make it real hard on them. I'm not taking anything away from them, not in any way, shape or form, but, we didn't have any pace to our game.
"Our puck play was sloppy. Anything that we put into the zone on the forecheck, we had very little speed, [which] allowed for a lot of easy exits for them. I don't want to get into every detail. We weren't very good tonight, bottom line."
Hayden gave the Kraken a 1-0 lead at 5:20 of the first on a redirection of Will Borgen's shot from beyond the right face-off circle.
Lindholm tied it 1-1 at 7:16 when he backhanded Toffoli's feed past Jones.
Toffoli gave Calgary a 2-1 lead at 13:28 on a rebound of Coleman's shot, and Nikita Zadorov made it 3-1 with five seconds left in the first on a one-timer from between the circles.

Tolvanen cut it to 3-2 at 10:36 of the third period on a rebound from the left circle after Adam Larsson's shot from the right point hit Oliver Bjorkstrand on its way to the net.
The goal came less than two minutes after Alex Wennberg had one taken away when the Flames successfully challenged for goalie interference at 8:59.
But Noah Hanifin gave Calgary a 4-2 lead at 11:40 on a one-timer from between the circles after a pass from Backlund, and Coleman scored an empty-net goal with 1:20 remaining for the 5-2 final.
"They scored first, but I think from then on we did a good job of containing them," Toffoli said. "Obviously in the third they had a push there, and we took some unnecessary penalties but obviously killed them off, getting a good break with a goalie interference, but overall, just a good win."
NOTES:Vladar's streak of 13 games ties a Flames record with Brian Elliott (12-0-1 in 2016-17) and Mike Vernon (12-0-1 in 1988-89). … Lindholm had three points in a period for the fifth time in his career. … Hayden scored his first NHL goal this season in his second game with Seattle since being recalled from Coachella Valley of the American Hockey League on Tuesday. His previous NHL goal was scored March 7, 2022, for the Buffalo Sabres against the Florida Panthers.
