"Trevor was a big part ... really a glue member of the team last year and we're excited to have him back," Flames general manager Brad Treliving said. "He's just a professional. Really, there's some versatility to him. We saw in the playoffs with some injuries, and he jumped in. Can play center, can play the wing. He became a valuable member of the team. Penalty killer. He's got experience. Tremendous person. He's somebody that I think is an example to all players in terms of how he goes about his business."

signed a two-year, $2.6 million contract with Calgary. It has an average annual value of $1.3 million.
The 29-year-old forward played the past two seasons for the New York Rangers. He had 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 61 regular-season games in 2021-22 and two assists in 15 playoff games to help the Rangers advance to the Eastern Conference Final.
"Kevin Rooney is a player we've watched the last number of years," Treliving said. "Brings some size (6-foot-2, 201 pounds). Brings some versatility. Brings some speed.
"He fits a need for us right now in that fourth-line center role. Had a great experience with the Rangers' run this year. He's a player we talked about prior to him going to New York. We think he fits with the identity of our group and we're excited to get him."
