Calgary advanced with a 3-2 overtime win against the Dallas Stars in Game 7 at Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday. Edmonton eliminated the Los Angeles Kings with a 2-0 win in Game 7 of the first round on Saturday.
The Flames, who are the No. 1 seed in the Pacific Division, will have home-ice advantage against the Oilers, the No. 2 seed from the Pacific.
Johnny Gaudreau led the Flames in the first round with eight points (two goals, six assists), including the overtime goal against the Stars in Game 7. Jacob Markstrom started all seven games and allowed 11 goals (.943 save percentage).
"I mean, I've been here for nine years and never had even a sniff of a chance to play them in the playoffs," Gaudreau said. "It's pretty special and it'll be a lot of fun. It's going to be good for the province. It's going to be fun for them, for us. It's going to be a pretty cool series."
Connor McDavid leads the NHL with 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) this postseason. Forwards Evander Kane (seven goals, two assists) and Leon Draisaitl (five goals, four assists) each had nine points against the Kings, defenseman Cody Ceci had six (one goal, five assists), and center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had five (two goals, three assists).
Mike Smith got all four wins for Edmonton and played every minute in the series.
Gaudreau (one goal, seven assists) and Matthew Tkachuk (three goals, five assists) led the Flames with eight points against the Oilers. Elias Lindholm (three goals, two assists) and Noah Hanifin (one goal, four assists) each had five points.
Markstrom was 2-2-0 with a 3.54 GAA and .884 save percentage.
The Oilers were 2-2-0 against the Flames during the regular season and were led by Draisaitl, who had 11 points (five goals, six assists), including a hat trick and an assist in a 9-5 loss on March 26. McDavid had seven points (three goals, four assists), and Nugent-Hopkins had five (one goal, four assists).
Smith was 1-1-0 with a 3.81 goals-against average and .918 save percentage, and Mikko Koskinen was 1-1-0 with a 4.61 GAA and .875 save percentage.
Edmonton, which advanced past the first round for the first time since 2017, is 4-1 in five postseason series against Calgary, winning the most recent meeting in seven games in the 1991 Smythe Division Semifinals.
