MTL@TOR, Gm1: Byron nets SHG while falling to the ice

Paul Byron didn't even need to stay on his feet to score the game-winning goal Thursday.

The Montreal Canadiens forward scored on an incredible breakaway goal, shooting from his knees to beat Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jack Campbell and ice Game 1 of the Stanley Cup First Round.
Byron chased down a puck beautifully chipped ahead by forward Joel Armia, somehow beating Maple Leafs defenseman Rasmus Sandin to it.
Byron gained possession despite a huge dive from Sandin that left Byron on all fours sliding towards the net. In one motion, Byron moved the puck to his forehand side and flipped it right over Campbell's glove hand while sliding towards the boards at 12:44 of the third period to put the Canadiens ahead 2-1. It was a truly spectacular effort.
To boot, Byron's effort came while the Canadiens were shorthanded. Game 2 of the best-of-7 series is Saturday (7 p.m ET; CNBC, CBC, SN, TVAS).
