Former Montreal Canadiens president and owner John David Molson has died at age 88, the Canadiens announced Monday.
Molson was named Canadiens president in 1964, when he was 35 years old. He held the position for seven seasons. Under his ownership, the Canadiens won the Stanley Cup five times (1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971). Educated in Montreal and Brussels, he joined the Molson Breweries Limited in 1949 and held various positions until he was named vice president in January 1964.
