Marc Bergevin makes like a tree to hide from media
Canadiens general manager jokingly dodges press using potted plant at GMs meetings

Marc Bergevin seemed intent on avoiding the media on Monday during the annual meeting of the NHL's general managers in Boca Raton, Florida.
The Montreal Canadiens GM picked up a potted plant and held in front of him, a la Inspector Clouseau of "The Pink Panther," to make the walk from the morning session of meetings to the larger meeting room a short distance away.

Bergevin's tongue-in-cheek attempt at stealth was greeted by laughs from the reporters he was likely trying to avoid, as well as some of his fellow GMs heading to the same building. "It was a last-second decision," Bergevin said. "I saw you guys lined up outside and decide to try something… The real reason actually is that [Edmonton Oilers GM] Peter (Chiarelli) asked me to bring the plant in the large room."

Afterward, Bergevin re-emerged from the building and met with the media, discussing the early session of the three-day meeting. The League's 31 general managers are in Boca Raton to discuss the game and potential ways to make it better. The managers broke into four groups Monday morning to examine what the game could look like in both the immediate future and the long-term future.
