The Vancouver Canucks goalie will sport the No. 49, which his wife Brandi, son Ben and daughter Belle helped him unveil Wednesday.
Holtby wore another unusual number, No. 70, during his 10-season run with the Washington Capitals. He was assigned that number and hung onto it after seeing fans purchase his jersey, according to
the Washington Post
.
But new teammate Tanner Pearson wears No. 70 for Vancouver, and with the chance to choose his own number for the first time in his career he chose one close to home. According to Brandi, he combined her favorite number, No. 4, and his preferred digit, No. 9.
