Henrik Lundqvist's Washington Capitals teammates took to social media Thursday to show their support after the veteran goalie announced he will
not play this season because of a heart condition
.

The news shocked NHL teams and fans alike. Lundqvist signed a one-year contract with the Capitals this offseason after his contract was bought out by the New York Rangers after 15 seasons.
Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin wrote "100 percent health is most important Hank! My family wish the best for you and hope to see you soon!!!"

Team owner Ted Leonsis also shared his support for Lundqvist, writing: "Heartbreaking and emotional. I am only concerned and thinking about Henrik Lundqvist as a person and for his family's wellbeing. We pray for his good health. We and the entire NHL family support the King. The video moved me to tears."

Capitals forward Tom Wilson wrote, "We're with you man. All the best moving forward with your health and I hope we can share the ice again at some point!"

Capitals forward Carl Hagelin, who was also a teammate of Lundqvist in New York from 2011-15 wrote, "Terrible news for Hank and his family! I know how excited he was for the upcoming season and to join the team. Thoughts are with you!!"

The Rangers shared a touching statement about their former goalie.
"We have no doubt that Henrik Lundqvist will face this challenge with the same fierce determination and grace that made him one of the greatest goaltenders to ever play the game of hockey and an inspiration to all of us," the statement said. "He and his family are in our thoughts during this difficult time. He will always be a part of the New York Rangers family."

Rangers defenseman Tony DeAngelo, a teammate of Lundqvist for three seasons, echoed sentiments for a full recovery: "Terrible news. Was hoping to see Hank have a good year. Hope everything turns out ok and he is back again."

NHL teams flooded the replies of Lundqvist's tweet to share their well wishes.
Ludqvist responded to the outpouring in with a tweet of his own.
