Backstrom-Cup 8-12

Nicklas Backstrom was a good host Sunday, cleaning the Stanley Cup even when he didn't necessarily have to.

After the Washington Capitals forward and his children Haley and Vince enjoyed a breakfast ice cream sundae in the Cup, they gave it a thorough cleaning at their home in Valbo, Sweden.

Backstrom told the Washington Post he'd let his children decide what breakfast would be. They settled on the dessert treat early in the day.

After the breakfast and Cup bath, Backstrom took it to the community where he grew up. He stopped at Nickback Arena, named for him since he took over as the arena's sponsor in 2011, for a public viewing.

Backstrom then closed his day with the Cup with a family boat trip on the Baltic Sea.

Backstrom was chosen by the Capitals with the No. 4 pick in the 2006 NHL Draft and his 815 games played is the seventh-most in their history. He had 23 points (five goals, 18 points) in 20 Stanley Cup Playoff games to help Washington win the Cup for the first time.
