Trevor van Riemsdyk signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Washington Capitals on Saturday.
The 29-year-old defenseman scored eight points (one goal, seven assists) in 49 games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season and had one assist in two Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Signed by the Chicago Blackhawks as an undrafted free agent on March 24, 2014, van Riemsdyk has scored 69 points (15 goals, 54 assists) in 364 regular-season games with the Hurricanes and Blackhawks, and two points (one goal, one assist) in 26 playoff games.
Van Riemsdyk won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks as a rookie in 2015.
