Hurricanes team scope

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Justin Faulk is week to week with an upper-body injury, according to coach Bill Peters. Faulk, who was injured in the third period of a 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Sunday, is out the remainder of this week. The results of an MRI taken Monday were not revealed. Right wing Lee Stempniak, who played in 63 games for the Devils last season, will make his first appearance at Prudential Center since signing a two-year contract on July 1. "[Stempniak] is a great player and no doubt in the top-six with Carolina," Devils coach John Hynes said. "He's a great locker room guy, works hard and is competitive. He's a high character player and person." Stempniak will play on a line with left wing Phillip Di Giuseppe and center Teuvo Teravainen.

Devils team scope

Goalie Cory Schneider will make his 10th start for the Devils. He is 4-3-1 with a 1.89 goals-against average in nine games against the Hurricanes. Backup Keith Kinkaid made 33 saves in the win Sunday. "Keith certainly played really well and he was a big factor in why we won, but it's also about having [Schneider] be able to play the right amount of games in the month," Hynes said. New Jersey is 8-4-1 against Carolina since 2013-14. The Devils will play nine of their next 12 games on the road. "We won a game [against Carolina], which was important and our goalie played well, but we're going to have to improve from then until now to get a win tonight," right wing Michael Cammalleri said. Cammalleri scored three goals, his first three of the season, Sunday.

Status report

Dahlbeck and Nakladal replace Faulk and Murphy in Carolina's lineup. "We'll find out what they're all about," Peters said. "[Nakladal] missed some time in the World Cup of Hockey 2016 [for the Czech Republic] coming into our program. Dahlbeck has been good. So let's get them in and have a fair evaluation on both players." Peters will also move Lindholm to the top line with Rask and Skinner. … Kalinin replaces Boucher in the Devils lineup. … Merrill and Gazdic, who have each missed the past 11 games, skated for the first time since their injuries. "Those guys are in full practice mode now," Hynes said. "They had been off for such a long time and are not game ready but they're at the point where they are comfortable with contact and being around the team."
