Chiasson earns 2-point night in a 4-3 victory

DETROIT --Dominik Kubalik scored with 4:07 remaining in the third period, and the Detroit Red Wings rallied to end a six-game skid, 4-3 against the Chicago Blackhawks at Little Caesars Arena on Wednesday.

After Lucas Raymond tied it 3-3 at 12:36 of the third when he tipped in a point shot by Robert Hagg, Kubalik gave Detroit a 4-3 lead 3:18 later. Kubalik scored from the right face-off circle at 15:53 after receiving a pass by Gustav Lindstrom from the left point after Andrew Copp won an offensive-zone face-off.
Kubalik played his first three NHL seasons with the Blackhawks before signing a two-year contract with the Red Wings on July 13, 2022.
"You always want to beat your old team," Kubalik said. "Their team is different, obviously, after a lot of trades, but you still want to win and score against them."

Joey Anderson had given Chicago a 3-2 lead at 6:10 of the third when he scored from the left circle off an offensive-zone face-off. It was his first goal in six games since being acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 27.
Dylan Larkin also scored, Alex Chiasson had two assists, and Ville Husso made 17 saves for the Red Wings (29-26-9), who were outscored 27-9 during the losing streak (0-5-1).
Detroit is six points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.
"I liked this game a ton," Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said. "We've talked about not giving up on the season, and tonight was a perfect example of that. We were down 2-0, had an unbelievable second period, then got down 3-2 and still came back."
Taylor Raddysh scored twice, and Alex Stalock made 37 saves for the Blackhawks (22-37-5), who have lost five of their past six.
"Whatever we did to prepare for this game, it wasn't good enough for the NHL," Chicago coach Luke Richardson said. "I thought we were sloppy right from the start, and the only reason we were close was our goaltender."
Stalock made 12 saves in the first period, including stopping a deflection by Robby Fabbri at 4:08 before making a sprawling save with the edge of his glove on Filip Zadina at 4:11.
"That's a good team over there, even if they've been struggling for wins, and we let them regain the momentum in their building," Stalock said. "That's always going to hurt you in this league."
Raddysh gave the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead at 15:51 on a power play, scoring on a cross-crease pass by Lukas Reichel. He then made it 2-0 at 17:58 with a wrist shot from the right circle.

Stalock preserved the two-goal lead when he stopped Larkin on a penalty shot at 19:18 after Caleb Jones covered a loose puck in the crease with his hand.
"I thought we were soft in every area tonight, and that's not the way we need to be playing," Raddysh said. "We didn't help [Stalock] tonight, and he still gave us a chance right to the end. I feel like there have been a lot of games where he's been dialed in and we haven't played well in front of him."
Jake Walman made it 2-1 at 2:53 of the second period on a point shot before Larkin tied it 2-2 on a power play at 18:34 after receiving a cross-crease, no-look between-the-legs pass by Chiasson.
Chiasson has two assists in three games since signing a contract for the remainder of the season on March 3. He had been on a professional tryout contract with Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League.
"It's a special night, playing in this building, in this (home) jersey for the first time," Chaisson said. "Obviously, winning is a cherry on top."

Fabbri left the game after sustaining a lower-body injury at 17:43 of the first after he was hit by Tyler Johnson.
"We'll know more tomorrow, but we're crossing our fingers," Lalonde said. "He tried to skate on the practice rink [inside Little Caesars Arena], but he couldn't go."
