"I always had the idea that I wanted to do it at a Blackhawks game," Dalbis said. "She had no clue this was going to happen."
Sommer, who said her now-fiancé is responsible for getting her into hockey, had her suspicions that something was amiss.
"He wanted to be there for warmups. We never get there for warmups," Sommer said.
But this time they did. When they arrived, Dalbis made a sign at the game that read "If I get a puck, I'll propose." But he still threw Sommer off the scent, claiming he didn't have any ring with him.
Dalbis said goalie Cam Ward approached, but failed to get a puck over the glass and skated away (Dalbis said later Ward waved him over and told him this was on purpose, as a joke).
Enter forward Brendan Perlini. The puck was flipped, the question was popped, extended family members were called or texted and the couple is looking to set a wedding date for late next year.
