Trotz-SWS 8-22

Residents will see a permanent reminder of his accomplishment whenever they travel along the newly named Barry Trotz Way.

Trotz coached the Washington Capitals to their first Stanley Cup championship before accepting a job as New York Islanders coach in June. As part of the festivities, mayor Allen Dowhan unveiled a portion of a street now named after Trotz.

Dauphin, located in western Manitoba with a population of about 8,500, is where Trotz lived during his childhood.
He played his last season of junior hockey for the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. They won the league championship that season and then defeated the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Champions for the ANAVET Cup.
Trotz became Kings general manager and coach in 1985 and became coach at the University of Manitoba in 1987. So it was no surprise the Kings were right there with him when he touched down in Dauphin.

The team hosted a meet and greet at their arena after Trotz had a parade through town.

To show his appreciation for his hometown's support, Trotz pledged to match up to $75,000 in charitable donations raised during his trip.
