Pastrnak, Bruins push past Avalanche, 5-1

BOSTON --David Pastrnak and Taylor Hall combined to score six points for the Boston Bruins in a 5-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche at TD Garden on Monday.

Pastrnak had two goals and an assist, and Hall had three assists.
"I think it was the best game of this year, if we're talking about the full game and 60 minutes," Pastrnak said. "We just stayed in the moment. We were really energized, and it was a great win for us. A big two points."
Patrice Bergeron had a goal and an assist, Charlie McAvoy had two assists, and Jeremy Swayman made 28 saves for the Bruins (29-17-4), who have won two in a row and are 3-1-1 in their past five games.
"It was pretty special [to start]," Swayman said. "I don't know if you guys know, but I had a year in Colorado, during my U-18 year. So it was kind of a dream to play against the [Avalanche] one day, and definitely beat them, so that was fun. I love being in net and being able to get points for this team. It's a good day, and we're happy with the win."
Nathan MacKinnon scored, and Darcy Kuemper made 40 saves for the Avalanche (36-10-4), who had their seven-game road winning streak end.
"We were a little bit sloppy coming out of our zone, and then that kind of translates to the neutral zone and obviously to the offensive zone as well," Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog said. "They were good tonight. We weren't on our A game. When you have one team that plays their best and one team that doesn't, then it's going to be lopsided at the end of the day. We know we're a better team than we showed tonight. We'll get back on track here Wednesday (at the Detroit Red Wings)."

COL@BOS: Avalanche, Bruins trade goals in 2nd period

Pastrnak gave Boston a 1-0 lead at 17:30 of the first period off a loose puck after McAvoy's pass deflected off Bergeron's skate.
Bergeron made it 2-0 at 8:01 of the second, scoring on his own rebound in front of the crease after Kuemper saved his initial one-timer.
MacKinnon cut it to 2-1 at 12:58 with a one-timer from the right face-off circle on the power play.
"We came back on them at home (in a 4-3 in overtime win on Jan. 26) after they got a lead, and sort of turned the table in the game," Colorado coach Jared Bednar said. "I was hoping we were going to go do that after we got that one to make it 2-1. It felt like our bench came alive and we were going to push for it. I was hoping to come out of that period 2-2 and make a strong push in the third after weathering the storm, especially the first. That didn't happen tonight."

COL@BOS: Coyle scores PPG in 3rd period

Pastrnak scored his second goal of the game at 14:35 to put Boston ahead 3-1. He's scored three goals in his past three games after going without one his previous four.
"Sometimes you just need to get one to kind of flush whatever happened before," Pastrnak said. "I felt good going into the game, I love afternoon games. The goal the other day (against the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 19) helped me. I had been fighting it lately, so it's a good bounce back."
Jake DeBrusk extended the lead to 4-1 at 15:42.
Charlie Coyle then scored a power-play goal at 4:04 of the third period for the 5-1 final. Kuemper saved Pastrnak's one-timer before Coyle banked in the rebound.
