The 23-year-old junior forward was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as the top men's player in NCAA ice hockey this season. He led the University of Minnesota with 41 points (17 goals, 24 assists) and five game-winning goals in 34 games.
Minnesota's season ended with a 5-1 loss to Minnesota State on April 7 in the NCAA Frozen Four semifinal game in Boston.
Meyers (5-foot-11, 200 pounds), who was Minnesota's captain this season, was an undrafted free agent.
"Obviously, there was some other opportunities, but I just felt like I had a chance to join a great team and a great organization," Meyers said. "I felt like this was the best opportunity for me to just keep developing both on and off the ice.
"A big thing is you want an opportunity to play at the NHL level, but also at the same time there's a lot of great players here that I can learn from early in my career. So that played into it."
Meyers is the first player from the University of Minnesota to have at least 40 points in a season since Montreal Canadiens forward Rem Pitlick (45) and Tyler Sheehy (41) in 2018-19.
In 102 games with Minnesota, Meyers had 95 points (39 goals, 56 assists). He had at least one point in 24 of 34 games this season, including 13 multipoint games.
"It's just been a whirlwind," Meyers said. "Obviously, there's a lot of emotions of our season being over and ending my time at the University of Minnesota. So that was obviously unfortunate, and I just felt that it was the best decision to move on and I'm excited to be here now and just focus on being hockey player for a little bit."
Meyers scored the winning goal and had an assist in the Worcester Regional semifinal in a 4-3 overtime win against University of Massachusetts and had two assists in a 3-0 victory against Western Michigan University.
He had two goals and two assists in four games for the United States at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
"Hard-working guy," Colorado coach Jared Bednar said. "Two-hundred foot guy that's trusted in all situations for a real good college team. He's played in big situations; power play, penalty kill, 5-on-5, shutdown roles. He's produced offense. He's got a good motor and a good work ethic, so we're excited to see him come in and get him in the lineup."
