Raymond, Red Wings defeat Blue Jackets

DETROIT -- Lucas Raymond scored his first NHL goal, and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday.

"Obviously, this is a great feeling," said Raymond, a forward who played his third game after he was the No. 4 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. "You always want to get the first one out of the way, and I got to do it in a win."
Thomas Greiss made 22 saves to win his second straight start for the Red Wings (2-0-1).
"He has been great for us," Detroit forward Tyler Bertuzzi said. "He was the First Star on Saturday (when he made 40 saves in a 3-1 victory against the Vancouver Canucks), and he made the big saves we needed tonight."

Joonas Korpisalo made 41 saves in his season debut for the Blue Jackets (2-1-0).
Raymond gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead at 6:17 of the third period when he took a pass from Dylan Larkin and scored with a wrist shot from the right face-off dot.
"It's easy to play with Larkin and Bertuzzi because they are both great players," Raymond said. "It's an incredible way to start my career."
Bertuzzi made it 2-0 at 8:53 with his fifth goal of the season.
Larkin and Raymond each had an assist on the goal. The three have combined for seven goals in the two games they've played together this season; Larkin was suspended for the Vancouver game for roughing Tampa Bay Lightning forward Mathieu Joseph in the season opener, a 7-6 overtime loss.
"Obviously, two games is a pretty small sample size, but I do think they are a good combination," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "[Bertuzzi] has the grit to get the puck out of the corners, [Larkin] has the speed to beat people to pucks, and Raymond is a really cerebral player who makes the right plays."

Boone Jenner scored a power-play goal at 12:51 to bring the Blue Jackets within 2-1.
Vladislav Namestnikov scored into an empty net with 1:14 remaining to make it 3-1, and Adam Erne scored another empty-net goal with 10 seconds left for the 4-1 final.
"[Jenner] gave us a chance, even as bad as we were playing," Columbus coach Brad Larsen said. "But we tried to force things when it was 6-on-5, and it didn't go well for us."

Korpisalo kept the Blue Jackets in the game for the first two periods, making 31 saves.
"[Korpisalo] gave us a chance, but we just didn't do enough to get loose pucks," Jenner said. "We know they are a fast team, and we didn't match their speed."
The Red Wings failed to take advantage of a 96-second 5-on-3 power play late in the second period, managing two shots.
"That's just not good enough," Blashill said. "When you have a 5-on-3 for that much time, the only way you shouldn't score is if the goalie is just unbelievable. We didn't force [Korpisalo] to do that."
NOTES: The Red Wings have earned at least one point in each of their first three games for the first time since they went 3-0-0 to start the 2015-16 season. … Greiss is 8-0-3 in his past 11 starts dating to April 4. … Korpisalo entered the game with a 6-0-0 record against the Red Wings in seven games.
