Five Blue Jackets score in win against Jets

WINNIPEG -- The Columbus Blue Jackets won their fourth straight game, 5-2 against the Winnipeg Jets at Bell MTS Place on Tuesday.
Cam Atkinson, Nick Foligno, Jack Johnson, Lukas Sedlak and Zach Werenski scored for the Blue Jackets (5-1-0), who had 11 players with one point and matched the best start in their history (2009-10). Joonas Korpisalo made 24 saves for his first win of the season.

"You could tell we had really good energy when the game started," Columbus coach John Tortorella said. "I thought it was the best checking we've done all year long and I think that helped us create offense."

, playing his first game with the Jets this season after being recalled from Manitoba of the American Hockey League on Monday, and Joel Armia scored for Winnipeg (3-3-0). Steve Mason made 34 saves and is 0-3-0 in three starts.
"I feel for [Mason] because I think he kept it right for as long as he could," Jets coach Paul Maurice said. "We didn't have enough going for us in this game. Just too darn slow to give him a chance to win us a game."

The Blue Jackets scored four of five goals in the second period.
Atkinson made it 1-0 when he beat Mason on a breakaway 36 seconds into the period.
Foligno made it 2-0 at 10:50 after intercepting a pass from Jets forward Blake Wheeler.
"It felt good to get the first one out of the way," Foligno said. "I really liked our game all the way through. Our start was really good in a building that's a hard building to start in. They usually come out flying. We played to our identity. We got pucks behind them, we reloaded really hard and played hard down low, and were rewarded for it."
Maurice shuffled the top two lines after the second Blue Jackets goal, moving Connor to the first line and dropping Nikolaj Ehlers to the second.
The move paid off, with Connor scoring at 12:30 to make it 2-1 off a backhand pass from Mark Scheifele in the slot.

Johnson scored the game-winner with a one-timer off Brandon Dubinsky's cross-ice pass at 13:54 to make it 3-1. Sedlak scored at 18:11 to make it 4-1.
Werenski scored his third goal to make it 5-1 at 12:15 of the third period.
"There's going to be nights like this," Wheeler said. "We've just got to get our quickness back up to where it was the last three games. I think the Carolina [Hurricanes] game we survived that one and gutted our way through it (a 2-1 win Saturday), and we just didn't really get skating again after that game. We've just got to get our feet moving."
Armia scored shorthanded with 1:37 left to make it 5-2. He tipped the puck past Blue Jackets defenseman David Savard at the Jets blue line. Streaking down the right side, Armia dragged the puck around Johnson and then lifted it over Korpisalo for Winnipeg's third shorthanded goal of the season.

Goal of the game

Foligno intercepted Wheeler's back pass just outside the Jets zone, and then toe-dragged around defenseman Josh Morrissey before bringing the puck around Mason and tucking it in from the right side of the net.

Save of the game

Korpisalo got his left pad on a rebound attempt after making the save on a Tucker Poolman wrist shot from the left point at 2:15 of the second period. Korpisalo had to make the stop when Werenski and Jets forward Nic Petan after swiped at the puck near the top off the crease.

Highlight of the game

Alex Wennberg poked the puck away from Ehlers at the Columbus blue line and Artemi Panarin pushed it ahead, allowing Atkinson to gain control in the neutral zone. Atkinson held off Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba to score past Mason on a deke for his third goal.
