Timmons, a 24-year-old defenseman, had no points in two games with the Coyotes this season. A second-round pick (No. 32) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2017 NHL Draft, Timmins has seven assists in 41 regular-season games for the Avalanche and Coyotes and no points in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Douglas, 22, was a fourth-round pick (No. 106) by the Dallas Stars in the 2018 NHL Draft. He had 34 points (13 goals, 21 assists) in 67 games last season with the Toronto Marlies, the Maple Leafs' American Hockey League affiliate, and one assist in 13 AHL games this season.
The Maple Leafs are currently without three of their top defensemen. Morgan Rielly was placed on long-term injured reserve Tuesday because of a knee injury; Jake Muzzin is on LTIR with a cervical spine injury and will be reevaluated in February; and TJ Brodie has missed the past five games with an oblique injury.
Toronto (10-5-5) visited the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, while the Coyotes (6-9-2) played at the Carolina Hurricanes.
