The Coyotes unveiled three exceptional sugar skull-style masks signed by goalie Darcy Kuemper that they are auctioning off to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month.
The masks were custom painted by helmet artist David Arrigo to mimic sculpted skulls made out of sugar or clay for the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos. They also feature subtle nods to Coyotes history, including the team's alternate
crescent moon logo
that will be at center ice at Gila River Arena this season.
"It's something different," Arrigo said of the designs
to the Coyotes website
. "It's a new style of art from me. I know this has been a custom of Hispanic ways for many, many years. For me, it was just a new challenge to provide something a little bit different, a little more unique, which is what I think we're going to achieve with this project.
"They're very vibrant. They're a lot of fun, and definitely something different than what I've worked on in the past.
The masks will be
available until Oct. 31
, with funds benefiting the Arizona Coyotes Foundation.
