Goalie Louis Domingue will start against the Rangers. It'll be his third straight start and fourth straight appearance since Smith had to leave the game against Ottawa. Domingue has allowed seven goals on 50 shots in his two starts and 10 goals on 61 shots since replacing Smith.
The Coyotes lost all three games, most recently 3-2 against the New York Islanders at Barclays Center on Friday. Arizona is allowing a League-high 36.5 shots on goal per game this season.
"My game is coming along, honestly," Domingue said. "I felt good in Brooklyn the other night. I'm just trying to get back in the rhythm. The thing is we need a win right now, so we don't really have time to get feeling good. You've got to feel good now. That's my job."
In addition, forward Jamie McGinn, who has missed the first four games of the season with an upper-body injury, joined the Coyotes in New York and could make his season debut against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Tuesday.
McGinn was on the ice with the Coyotes at the Garden on Sunday morning. Tippett said McGinn needs to go through a full contact practice before he can play.
"Looks good," Tippett said. "It's the first practice today he's had in a couple weeks. He won't play [Sunday night], but we'll get him another good practice [Monday] and he's possibly an option for New Jersey."
