ohl goalie goal pic

Barrie Colts goalie Anson Thornton not only scored in an Ontario Hockey League game on Thursday, he did it in style.

Thornton, an Arizona Coyotes prospect, played a puck behind his own net in the closing seconds of a win against the Hamilton Bulldogs. Instead of clearing it around the boards, Thornton lifted the puck perfectly, sending it nearly 200 feet the other direction while falling to one knee.

The team also shared an ice-level angle of the gorgeous goal. After the score, the celebration was on.

Thornton is the first Colts goalie to score a goal and the 10th to score in the OHL. It's the first goalie goal in the AHL since 2017.

Needless to say, the Coyotes enjoyed the moment, shouting out their 19-year-old prospect.

The Oshawa, Ontario native signed with the Coyotes as an undrafted free agent in October of 2021.
