"I'm very excited," Condon said. "I didn't have much time to think about it. It's the best way to do it. I got in a little late last night and I'm ready to play.
"It's nice being a goalie. You've got one job, and that's keeping a black circle from crossing a red line. No difficult systems to learn there."
Coach Guy Boucher said there is no timetable for Anderson or Hammond to return.
"We don't know when [Anderson] will be back. We don't know when Hammond will be back," Boucher said. "I think Pierre did a great job of making sure we had somebody with experience for the next games because we don't know how many games [Anderson will be absent]. As we know in this business, one, two, or three points by the end of the year, it's the playoffs or no playoffs. I think the urgency of the situation was dealt with well by Pierre.
"With Condon's experience, it gives us the chance to let our American [Hockey] League goaltenders develop at the rate they should develop at without the pressure that we have right now."
Goaltenders Chris Driedger, 22, and Matt O'Connor, 24, were called up from Binghamton of the AHL after it was announced that Nicholle Anderson had been diagnosed with cancer and Hammond was injured Friday in a 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames.
O'Connor was sent back to Binghamton after the trade for Condon.
Condon appeared in one game for the Penguins, relieving Marc-Andre Fleury and stopping all seven shots he faced in the third period of a 5-1 loss at the Nashville Predators on Oct. 22.
Condon, 26, made his NHL debut on Oct. 11, 2015, for the Montreal Canadiens against the Senators in Ottawa's home opener, a 3-1 win by the Canadiens. With starter Carey Price injured, Condon started 51 games for the Canadiens last season and was 21-25-6 with a 2.71 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage.
"I guess you could say there's some good mojo in this building for me," Condon said of Canadian Tire Centre. "I got my first win here. I've got that great memory."
Condon was undrafted and signed with the Canadiens in 2013 after completing his college eligibility at Princeton.
The Penguins, faced with an injury to goaltender Matt Murray, claimed Condon off waivers from the Canadiens on Oct. 11.
