Montreal will retain 50 percent of Dadonov's contract.
Dadonov, who is in the final season of a three-year, $15 million contract he signed with the Ottawa Senators on Oct. 15, 2020, can become an unrestricted free agent after the season. The 33-year-old forward has 18 points (four goals, 14 assists) in 50 games this season.
"Evgenii is a skilled forward that can play anywhere in our lineup," Stars general manager Jim Nill said. "Recording 20 or more goals in four of his previous five seasons, he is a proven goal-scorer at the NHL level and will bolster our offensive attack."

Dadonov was traded to the Canadiens by the Vegas Golden Knights for defenseman Shea Weber on June 16. Prior to the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline, Dadonov was traded by Vegas to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman John Moore, forward Ryan Kesler and a conditional second-round pick in the 2023 or 2024 NHL Draft, but the NHL voided the trade, saying his contract included a limited no-trade clause that had not been complied with. Dadonov was back in the Golden Knights' lineup three days later.
A third-round pick (No. 71) by the Florida Panthers in the 2007 NHL Draft, Dadonov has 283 points (128 goals, 155 assists) in 463 regular-season games for the Canadiens, Golden Knights, Senators and Panthers.
Gurianov, who signed a one-year, $2.9 million contract with the Stars on June 7, can become a restricted free agent after the season. The 25-year-old has nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 43 games this season.
Selected by the Stars in the first round (No. 12) of the 2015 NHL Draft, Gurianov has 103 points (46 goals, 57 assists) in 257 NHL games. He had 17 points (nine goals, eight assists) in 27 Stanley Cup Playoff games in 2020, helping Dallas reach the Stanley Cup Final, when it lost in six games to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Stars (31-16-2) are first in the Central Division, two points ahead of the Minnesota Wild and three points ahead of the Colorado Avalanche and Winnipeg Jets.
The Canadiens (25-30-4) are last in the Atlantic Division.
The NHL Trade Deadline is 3 p.m. ET on Friday.
