Necas nets OT goal to lift Hurricanes to 5-4 win

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Martin Necas scored at 2:19 of overtime, and the Carolina Hurricanes extended their point streak to 10 games in a 5-4 win against the Dallas Stars at PNC Arena on Saturday.

Andrei Svechnikov couldn't convert on a backhand feed from Necas, but Svechnikov gathered the rebound and passed back to Necas for the netfront tap-in.
"We came straight down the ice 2-on-1 with a little back pressure, so there was not much time for making a play," Necas said. "He made a great play back to me. It kind of bounced over [Dallas defenseman Miro] Heiskanen's stick and went in."

Teuvo Teravainen and Svechnikov each had a goal and an assist, and Antti Raanta made 26 saves for the Hurricanes (18-6-6), who are 8-0-2 during the streak. Brent Burns had two assists.
"Obviously we have some steady pieces in there that [have provided] consistent play," Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "The guys really work hard. At the end of the day, they take pride in what they're doing. It shows."
Joe Pavelski and Jamie Benn each scored, and Jason Robertson had three assists for the Stars (18-8-6). Scott Wedgewood made 33 saves.
Teravainen scored on a 5-on-3 at 13:54 of the second period to give the Hurricanes a 3-2 lead when he settled a one-touch cross-ice pass from Necas and scored short side off Wedgewood's shoulder. The goal was Teravainen's first of the season.
"'Nechy' made a nice pass and I got a lucky goal," Teravainen said. "Usually it's good to shoot it right away and just try to get it up."

"You get guys stepping up, keeping some pressure on," Pavelski said. "There's no letdown. 'Segs' gets a big goal off the draw and gives us life. We just keep going."
Jani Hakanpää tied it 4-4 at 10:47 by one-timing a pass from Robertson that trickled between Raanta's pads.
"We just have that confidence that we've done it before," Hakanpaa said. "We just keep going and trust our game and trust ourselves to get one."
