Benn gets hat trick in Stars victory against Oilers

EDMONTON -- Jamie Benn scored a hat trick for the Dallas Stars in a 6-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Saturday.

Jason Robertson had a goal and two assists, Joe Pavelski had a goal and an assist, and Scott Wedgewood made 28 saves for the Stars (8-3-1), who won their third straight.
"Our urgency was there tonight," said Benn, the Dallas captain. "We knew these guys can score at will, and I thought we had a strong team effort tonight."
Leon Draisaitl and Darnell Nurse scored, and Jack Campbell made 30 saves for the Oilers (7-5-0), who have lost two in a row following a five-game winning streak.
"They outbattled us and played a hard game from the start," Nurse said. "We didn't match their intensity and their compete, and ended up on the wrong side."

Pavelski gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at 6:15 of the first period. He tipped in a pass from Roope Hintz, who got to a long rebound off a shot from Robertson.
Colin Miller made it 2-0 at 6:46 of the second period on a slap shot from just inside the blue line.
"This kind of went like it's gone all year for me, personally," Campbell said. "I just haven't brought my best. It's been pathetic the way I've been playing. I owe it to this team to bring my A-game and they haven't seen it yet. So, I'm going to keep working hard and I'm going to get through this and be there for the guys, but they've been playing great."
Draisaitl cut it to 2-1 on the power play at 10:16. He took a pass from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and scored from a sharp angle.
Robertson made it 3-1 at 14:48 on a shot that hit the left post and bounced in off Campbell's back. The forward has 11 points (six goals, give assists) during a five-game goal streak, having scored in each game.
"The puck's just finding me right now," Robertson said. "I had quite the amount of shots today (game-high 10), and one went in, so it was good."
Benn pushed the lead to 4-1 on the power play 39 seconds later at 15:27, poking the puck in after Robertson stick-handled around Campbell and tried to tuck it in.
"This is a tough building and we played a real gritty road game," Stars coach Peter DeBoer said. "I thought 'Wedgy' made some big saves for us and let us get our legs under us. I though as the game wore on, we got to our game more and kind of established the way we wanted to play the game and dictated a big portion of it, other than when we took penalties."

Nurse cut it to 4-2 at 3:41 of the third period. He jumped into the rush, took a pass from Jesse Puljujarvi and shot over Wedgewood's shoulder.
Benn restored the three-goal lead with a power-play goal that made it 5-2 at 4:01. A point shot from Miro Heiskanen hit traffic in front and bounced to Benn at the side of the net for a tap-in.
"I thought we lost too many 1-on-1 battles and stick battles," Oilers forward Derek Ryan said. "They're a good team, they're a resilient team, they seemed to continue to get that one extra goal when we felt like we were getting back in the game, and that's what it's going to be like when you play against top teams. It's a good wake-up call for us."
Benn scored his third goal for the 6-2 final at 12:33 after keeping the puck on a 2-on-1.
"I thought today, that's a team loss, it's not on one person," Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft said. "We got out-everything tonight. We, as a group, did and to me, of the 12 games of the year that we've played, we laid an egg tonight and that's the first time I've seen that where we didn't have it in all facets of the game, and to a man we weren't good enough."
