Janmark nets 2 goals in a 4-1 win over the Stars

EDMONTON --Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist to surpass 130 points for the Edmonton Oilers in a 4-1 win against the Dallas Stars at Rogers Place on Thursday.

Mattias Janmark scored twice, Evan Bouchard had two assists, and Stuart Skinner made 25 saves for the Oilers (38-23-8), who have won two straight and four of five. They remained five points behind the Los Angeles Kings for second in the Pacific Division. The Kings defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 on Thursday.
Janmark has five points (four goals, one assist) in two games with the Oilers against the Stars, his former team, this season.
"It's fun playing your old team, you put a lot of effort in those years with those clubs, then you go somewhere else and you circle those games in your calendar," Janmark said. "I thought my game today was pretty average, to be honest, but found the net two times. That's just the way it goes."

DAL@EDM: Foegele puts home a pass to strike first

Wyatt Johnston scored for the third straight game, and Jake Oettinger made 26 saves for the Stars (37-19-13), who have lost two straight and remained one point ahead of the Minnesota Wild for first in the Central Division.
"I think they played a pretty tight game, for the most part," Dallas forward Joe Pavelski said. "They got those first two and the game kind of evened out a little bit. We got a big one in the third to pull within striking distance and then they capitalized on the power play. We probably weren't on the inside enough, didn't execute enough at times."
Warren Foegele scored at 12:12 of the first period to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead when he converted a cross-crease pass from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
Janmark scored on a short-handed 2-on-1 rush with McDavid at 15:53 to make it 2-0.
McDavid collected a loose puck deep in his own end, skated up the right wing and slipped a pass through Stars defenseman Ryan Suter to Janmark, who scored on a one-timer. The assist gave McDavid 130 points this season.
"That's a tough team to play against, they have a lot of skill and play the game the right way," Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse said. "We battled, and once we were in the driver's seat, we didn't give it up. [Skinner] made some huge saves for us and I thought we defended really well in our own zone."

DAL@EDM: McDavid fires home 57th on the power play

Johnston cut it to 2-1 at 9:49 of the third period when he picked up his own rebound in the slot and shot it past Skinner.
"Getting in the hole in the first period and playing behind again just like the other night [5-2 loss at Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday], it's not a good recipe for us," Stars coach Peter DeBoer said. "You have to score more than once to win, and I didn't think we did enough to get to the net, to get inside to penetrate to score."
McDavid restored the two-goal lead with a power-play goal at 11:18 to make it 3-1. He took pass in the slot from Leon Draisaitl and picked the top corner on Oettinger.
"You have to know when he's on the ice, he's the best player in the world," Dallas center Roope Hintz said. "You have to try and limit him not to get many scoring chances in the game. He got two good looks today, otherwise I thought we were pretty good on him."

DAL@EDM: Janmark scores in 1st period

Janmark scored into an empty net at 17:17, with Oettinger on the bench for an extra attacker, for the 4-1 final.
"They're a good hockey team, they do a lot of good things, they're a playoff-style team," Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft said. "I don't think they give much away for free. You have to earn every square inch of the ice with the Dallas Stars, and I thought we were patient and showed a level of endurance. In the end, we did more good things than not and found a way to walk out of here with two points."
